Inside OTTO WULFF: An Industrial Clerk’s Perspective with Daniel Rudi
Why did you decide to train as an industrial clerk at OTTO WULFF? What makes the apprenticeship special for you?
I have always been interested in economic processes and construction itself. Coming from a family of craftsmen, construction has fascinated me since childhood. OTTO WULFF has an excellent reputation in the industry, which I kept hearing from people around me. Ultimately, I applied to train as an industrial clerk because the apprenticeship combines exactly what I was looking for: construction and business.
But you can start at OTTO WULFF even without a construction background. The industry is exciting and unique, offering countless opportunities to develop your skills and achieve your goals. What’s special is that I’ve been able to experience all aspects of construction, from concreting on the construction site to project controlling.
What does your day-to-day training at OTTO WULFF look like? What do you focus on at work?
The daily routine varies a lot, which makes the work really diverse. I rotate through many departments such as Accounting, Costing, Marketing & Communication, Operational Controlling, Human Resources, Purchasing, Finance, and Legal & Consulting. This helps me understand the perspectives and working methods of different teams, giving me a comprehensive view of how a construction company operates. My focus is on operational controlling, where I work on site in a container office. I learn, for example, how to document and manage construction site costs—and I get to meet lots of new people.
How did your application process go? Do you have any tips for applying?
The application process was very relaxed. I received feedback quickly and was invited to an interview shortly afterwards. The interview was conducted on an equal footing and was very informative. I left feeling positive and confident—there’s really nothing to be afraid of! It’s about getting to know each other: you with OTTO WULFF, and OTTO WULFF with you.
I also noticed how flexible the company is when I applied proactively for the industrial clerk apprenticeship. The apprenticeship wasn’t advertised at the time, but I had already researched the training content and knew it was perfect for me. Coincidentally, it was scheduled to be advertised just two weeks after my application. So my advice is: be brave, apply, and stand up for your interests!
