„Werden alles geben“ – OTTO WULFF-Duo Lennart Burke und Melwin Fink startet mit Prolog in Weltumseglung
Globe40: With a bit of a delay, but full of anticipation, Lennart Burke and Melwin Fink hoisted the OTTO WULFF sail and set off on the adventure of sailing around the world.
A little late, but full of anticipation, Lennart Burke and Melwin Fink hoisted the OTTO WULFF sails and set off on their circumnavigation adventure. The starting signal for the Globe40 has now been given in Lorient, France. The two-handed regatta will take the Hamburg duo 30,000 nautical miles around the globe. Their goal: to become the youngest team to sail around the world in racing mode.
First destination is Cadiz
The prologue takes the fleet over around 900 nautical miles (approx. 1,666 kilometers) from the French Atlantic coast to Cadiz (Spain) and is included in the overall ranking of the race with a coefficient of 0.5. The first leg to Mindelo (Cape Verde) then starts in Cadiz on September 14.
Melwin Fink: "We will give everything"
"We will give everything to be at the front and are super motivated," said Melwin Fink. "Keep your fingers crossed for us and remember: it's not settled until the finish. This is a long and big race."
In eight months, after around 140 days at sea, the teams are expected back in Lorient. Getting there was not easy at all. The foothills of two hurricanes caused wind speeds of up to 50 knots and five-meter-high waves on the route. The race organizers decided to postpone the start by four days.
40 knots of wind await at Cap Finisterre
But now the OTTO WULFF team is on its way, sailing south through the Bay of Biscay and past Cap Finisterre. Despite the postponement, it is unlikely to be a cuddly course. At Cap Finisterre, the duo and their Class 40 boat are still expecting "a front with winds of up to 40 knots", says Melwin Fink.
OTTO WULFF wants to support young people
"The Globe40 project by Lennart Burke and Melwin Fink stands for passion, team spirit and tackling challenges. It requires vision and courage. Qualities that also characterize the OTTO WULFF company on a daily basis and are indispensable on our construction sites," says Stefan Wulff. "OTTO WULFF wants to inspire, support and encourage young people like Lennart and Melwin to live their dreams and dare to try something new."
The two budding circumnavigators made a start in Lorient. Their journey around the globe, across the equator, past Australia, South America and legendary caps, will be an adventure with many challenges. We will be following the OTTO WULFF duo closely and reporting on how dreams can come true.
